NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard rescued an injured man from his sailing vessel 15 nautical miles southeast of Sabine Pass, Texas, Saturday.

Watchstanders from the Eighth Coast Guard District received a notification of an SOS alert at 7:29 a.m. from the International Emergency Response Coordination Center about a man stating he was hurt, trapped and bleeding aboard his 40-foot sailing vessel.

Watchstanders requested assistance from the offshore supply vessel Mediterranean and directed the launch of a Coast Guard Aviation Training Center HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircrew, a Coast Guard Station Sabine 45-foot Response Boat-Medium boatcrew, and a Coast Guard Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew.

The Dolphin aircrew arrived on scene at 11:14 a.m. and transferred the man to emergency services at 12:36 p.m. at Chennault International Airport in Lake Charles, Louisiana, where he was then transported to Lake Charles Memorial Hospital.

The survivor was reported in stable in condition.
