GROVES — A petition to recall Groves City Councilmember Cross Coburn was submitted, with corrections, to the city’s clerk Monday afternoon.
Groves City Clerk Kim Lowery confirmed that William Howlett submitted the paperwork and Howlett said he made the necessary corrections.
Lowery will now check the submitted information and either certify the petition as sufficient or insufficient at the June 25 City Council meeting, she said.
Neither Lowery nor Howlett have said how many signatures were collected.
Coburn came under fire after partially nude and nude photos taken from Grindr, a gay networking/dating app, were sent to City Hall and to local media anonymously and attributed to Coburn, asking if this was proper behavior for a city councilman.
The photos were part of a private conversation between Coburn and another person, Coburn contends.
Groves resident William Howlett penned the petition to recall Coburn, 19, saying Coburn’s actions are unbecoming of a pubic official, compromise the integrity of the office and fracture the trust of the citizens.
