Road, highway closures

SH 347 in the Central Gardens area going north and southbound have been closed due to water over the roadway.

SH 73 going westbound from Bridge City has been closed due to low water crossings.

Parts of Nederland Avenue and Avenue H are closed due to water over the roadway.

Schools and colleges

Port Arthur Independent School District has given the option for parents to pick up their children from summer programming (summer school, Jump Start and other summer programs) if it is possible and if they wish.

The district has stated classes and assorted programs would be dismissed at their regular times, though school buses may be delayed due to inclement weather.

The district would continue to update parents and students through its Blackboard Connect service.

Lamar State College Port Arthur are dismissing classes as of 11 a.m.

Public Information Coordinator Gerry Dickert said any afternoon, evening or night classes would be cancelled as well.

He said Lamar Port Arthur would continue to monitor the situation. The school would give further updates through campus email, text messages or official school social media accounts.

*UPDATE*

Lamar State College Port Arthur announced it has immediately closed its campus for the day. It is scheduled to reopen at 8 a.m. Wednesday.
