Memorial assistant football coach Kary Vincent Sr. has been placed in intensive care at a Dallas-Fort Worth area hospital.
Vincent, 48, was traveling to Arlington for Sunday’s Miami-LSU game at AT&T Stadium when he dealt with a case of pneumonia, Memorial head coach Brian Morgan said. Vincent’s son Kary Jr. is a sophomore starting cornerback for the Tigers, who won 33-17.
Morgan said Vincent, who coached in Memorial’s 48-20 home win over Deer Park on Friday, had a bout with pneumonia in July, but was unsure if the latest symptoms were a continuation of that.
“Appreciate all the calls and texts, my Dad is currently fighting for his life rn [right now] but he is a FIGHTER nonetheless,” Vincent Sr.’s son Kameron tweeted. “Please continue to pray for him, we gone overcome this.”
Vincent Sr., a Thomas Jefferson graduate who was a football standout at Texas A&M in the early 1990s, also coaches track at Memorial. Vincent Jr. won two state 200-meter championships with the Titans (2016-17).
Memorial (1-0) hosts Houston Madison on Friday.
