SOCCER: LSU blanks host Lamar

BEAUMONT — Lamar was unable to overcome two first-half goals falling to LSU, 3-0, Tuesday evening at the LU Soccer Complex. It was a game where the score was not indicative of how close the action was on the field.

The Cardinals were outshot on the night but only by two, 13-11. The Red and White finished the night with one more save than the Tigers, 4-3.

“I think anyone who watched this game would tell you it was closer than the 3-0 score would indicate,” said LU head coach Steve Holeman. “LSU is a very direct team and they played a lot of balls in behind us. I thought we handled it well. We held our line well because they were offsides seven times in the first half but the one time they got in behind us they finished – good teams will do that.

“We made a couple mistakes tonight and they capitalized on each one. That is what good teams do,” added Holeman.
