Safe to say, Nederland has come a long way from starting the season 1-10.

The Bulldogs are now 14-13, the challenging start to the season reaping benefits at the right time.

Nederland went back over the .500 win percentage Tuesday in Port Arthur with a 25-12, 25-12, 25-19 team over Memorial to start District 21-5A play.

The Titans (15-6, 0-1 in 21-5A) scored the match’s first three points in front of a loud home crowd, but it did nothing to unravel the Bulldogs, who were coming off a three-set loss to Port Neches-Groves in Santa Fe. Destyn Miguez had 18 digs and Jenna Jarrett made 18 assists to pace Nederland. Meg Sheppard and Karley McGill each scored six kills, with Sheppard coming up with six digs and McGill registering two digs and two solo blocks.

Statistics for Memorial were unavailable.

PNG will not start district for another week but will host former 22-5A opponent Livingston on Friday. Memorial begins play at the YMBL tournament Thursday, and Nederland will visit Woodville on Friday.
