Wreck claims life of teen from Orange

A 16-year-old girl from Orange was killed this week when the vehicle in which she was traveling was involved in a head-on collision in Tyler County.
The Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed Friday that Marissa Gilchriest was riding in the rear passenger seat of an eastbound 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix around 2:45 p.m. Wednesday when it crossed the roadway and collided head-on with a westbound 2015 Ford Mustang on FM 1013, five miles east of Spurger.
Gilchriest was taken to a Tyler County hospital where Justice of the Peace Trisher Ford pronounced the teenager dead at 4:29 p.m.
DPS said she was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.
Carley Buckley, 25, and a 16-year-old front-seat passenger, both from Fred, were taken to St. Elizabeth hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the Ford, Karli Mears, 22, from Porter was also transported to St. Elizabeth hospital with serious injuries.
DPS noted that the roadway was wet.
