GIRLS BASKETBALL: Indians start strong at home

Juniors Mollee Priddy and Maylin Stampley scored in double figures, and Port Neches-Groves began the girls basketball season with a 47-35 winner over Little Cypress-Mauriceville at The Reservation on Tuesday.
Priddy scored 17 points and Stampley had 14 for the Indians. Chelsea Carrillo and Harlee Barnwell each scored six points, and Shelby Letulle and Britney Brevell wrapped up the scoring with two each.
PNG will host West Orange-Stark at approximately 6 p.m. Friday.
Bridge City 48, Tarkington 42
In Liberty County, Caitlyn Denison scored eight points and Madison Fischer pulled down 13 rebounds in the Cardinals’ six-point victory to start the season.
Bridge City will visit Evadale at 6 p.m. Thursday.
Baytown Sterling 49, Memorial 31
In Baytown, Sterling held Memorial without a double-digit scorer, and the Titans fell to 1-1 on the season.
Julia Sion scored nine points, shooting 4 of 8 from the floor. Memorial struggled to make free throws, going 2 for 18.
Marceya Scott had eight points for the Titans. She and Denisha Anderson (six points) each sank two three-point buckets.
Memorial will host Legacy Christian at 6 p.m. Friday.
