The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has taken into custody a suspect in a shooting in Mauriceville.

In an issued statement, the Sheriff’s Office said it was dispatched at 12:23 p.m. Wednesday to a gas station at the intersection of Highway 62 and Highway 12. There, they found a victim, 45, shot in the lower leg.

Medics attended the victim, who was flown by helicopter to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.

Deputies and other law enforcement officers combed an area near the Greenwood Acres neighborhood and found the suspect, who is 32 years old and known to the victim. He was taken into custody and transported to the Orange County Correctional Facility.

The Sheriff’s Office said the victim was in stable condition.

The cause of the shooting was under investigation and criminal charges were expected.
