BEAUMONT – Less than 24 hours after hosting a press conference announcing its early signing class, Lamar head coach Mike Schultz continues to add to the haul.

The Cardinals inked junior college transfer Kirsten Williams to the signing class Thursday morning. The addition of Williams brings the Cardinals class to 11, including six players on the defensive side of the ball.

Williams (6-3, 225) becomes the second defensive end to sign with the Cardinals (Davion May). Williams comes to LU from Blinn College, where he had two standout seasons. During those two seasons, he racked up 54 tackles, including seven sacks, on the Buccaneers defensive front.

“I’ll repeat what I said yesterday, our coaching staff did such a great job identifying talent, and we are excited to add Kirsten’s name added to that list,” said Schultz. “After losing a three-year starter at defensive end we had a need there that had to be filled. We accomplished that with two standouts. We’re excited to get these guys on campus.”

An honorable mention all-conference selection at the junior college level, Williams signed with Blinn after a standout career at Klein Forest High School. During his time with Klein Forest, Williams garnered second-team all-district honors.

Big Red’s signing class currently stands at six on defense and five offensive players. The position breakdown includes four offensive linemen, three defensive backs, two defensive ends, a quarterback and a linebacker.
