GROVES — Members of the Groves business community gathered Wednesday to discuss ways to attract and keep businesses and promote their own prospects.
People specializing in different ways to get the word out took turns speaking, including Keith Montgomery, a digital consulting agent. Montgomery is using the old “Shop MidCounty” logo and theme from 2009 and created a new version where Groves businesses can sign up and reach potential customers who can shop businesses in the city, make multiple purchases and pay one time.
He summed it up as one website where people can go when they are too busy or tired to shop.
But not all businesses are product oriented. Armentor’s United Martial Arts and Farmers Insurance in Groves and DeJean Automotive Inc. on the Port Arthur side of Twin City Highway are just a few.
Denise D’Abadie of Farmers Insurance, said she thought the idea of a business round table was a phenomenal idea.
Michelle DeJean, seated next to her, agreed.
“I think the turnout was great, fantastic for the first meeting and a way to get to know everybody and get feedback,” DeJean, who lives in Groves, said. “This is a huge step to me in the right direction.”
The inaugural Groves Business Round Table meeting was held at the city’s recreation building and hosted by the Groves Chamber of Commerce and the Groves Economic Development Corp. The group hopes to meet monthly but a definite date was not set.
