Clouds part for NHF opening

NEDERLAND — Hundreds of people poured onto Boston Avenue as the Nederland Heritage Festival opened their gates Tuesday.

While it was a mostly cloudy day, the sun peaked out around the time the carnival opened at 4 p.m.

Young and old gathered for food and rides as the festival kicked off. The smell of funnel cake and fried food mix with the sounds of laughter and shrieks of excitement.

Those who attended had a chance to buy a $25 wristband to enjoy the rides. The only other wristband days will be Thursday and Sunday.

Day one marked the start of the $500 treasure hunt. One can find hints at the police station with the next hint being posted Wednesday.

Tomorrow, the carnival will open from 4-11 p.m. Guest services will be located at the end of the Cuisine Walk and hosted by Independent Mary Kay Beauty Consultant Sara Stewart from 4-7 p.m. and Farmers Insurance James Carpenter Agency from 7-11 p.m.

The petting zoo will be open from 4-8 p.m. and located on the midway next to the French Museum.

Cuisine Walk hours are from 4-11 p.m. and Pop Gun will take the Philpott Ford Stage from 7-10 p.m.

All times are the same for Thursday and Curse & the Cure will perform from 7-10 p.m. on the Philpott Ford Stage.

An umbrella might be necessary for festivalgoers Wednesday with the forecast showing a chance significant chance of rain late tomorrow morning heading into the afternoon and evening.
