NEDERLAND — Although the City Council officially closed the Nederland Avenue street project at the last meeting, the area is continuing to blossom. DuGood Credit Union is the newest addition to Nederland Avenue and is set to break ground Tuesday.
The credit union had been seeking expansion for a few years and found land for lease on the corner of Nederland Avenue and 27th Street.
“This is their second location in Nederland,” Nederland Economic Development Corp. Director Kay DeCuir said. “The one on Twin City is strictly going to be for mortgage lending. The one on Nederland Avenue will be for all of your typical banking, credit union needs. It’ll be a gorgeous facility.”
The location will have a drive-through entrance on 27th Street and another parking entrance on Nederland Avenue.
The branch will have a minimum of six new employees and should be open in three to four months, weather permitting.
“We have a lot of new businesses that are still coming to the town,” DeCuir said. “We have another parcel on Nederland Avenue where a new business is coming right now. There is a home that is going to be torn down. They have purchased the property and taken the trees down. The next step is the building. It will be a very nice new business there, as well.”

DeCuir said the restaurant is close to being finished and that the store is interviewing prospective employees.
“If anyone is interested in applying for a job, they have a sign up on the front with a number to call,” DeCuir said. “It could be any time [before the restaurant opens].”
DeCuir said she is happy with the development over the past year and is looking ahead to other projects.
“I’m very proud of our businesses and what they have done for our community,” she said.
