Back-to-back three-run innings for Baylor’s softball team set the tone for a doubleheader sweep Tuesday.

Baylor won 6-0 and 2-0 in Waco, sending the Cardinals to 20-26 on the season and improving to 17-24. The three-spots in the first and second innings were all Baylor needed in the first game, as they scored three runs on two Cardinal errors.

Julia Voluntad struck out three and held Baylor to one earned run on six hits in a complete-game loss. She dropped to 6-9 on the year.

The Bears scored two runs on a second-inning double for all of the Game 2 scoring. No errors were committed by either team, and Lamar had four hits to Baylor’s six.

The two runs came off Erin Kyle (8-5), who struck out two in the first two innings. Aaliyah Ruiz and Jade Lewis worked two innings each for Lamar, with Ruiz striking out four and Lewis once.

Lamar will host Northwestern State for a three-game set starting with a doubleheader at 4 p.m. Friday. The third game is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday.
