Driver towing trailer leads law enforcement on chase

A Mesquite man driving a Chevrolet truck towing a trailer reportedly led law enforcement on a chase through two counties before he was stopped and arrested on Tuesday.

The chase began around 10 a.m. with a phone call to the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office communications about a reckless driver in a Chevrolet pickup towing a trailer. Chambers County deputies saw the vehicle and activated their emergency lights to stop the vehicle but the driver did not stop, according to a press release from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The driver fled from law enforcement through two counties and continued eastbound on Interstate 10 into Orange County. With the assistance of Vidor Police Department, the vehicle was spiked near mile marker 862.  With a punctured tire, the driver failed to stop and continued eastbound on the Interstate until he was stopped by Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers near Texas 62.

The driver, 30-year-old Kyle Ray Cox of Mesquite, Texas, was immediately taken into custody. Cox was taken before a magistrate in Orange County and then transported back to Chambers County. He will be booked into the Chambers County jail on the charge of evading arrest.

The arrest of Kyle Cox was a collaborative effort between Vidor Police Department, Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Chambers County Sheriff’s Office and DPS.
