On Friday, June 21, 2019, Hazel (Polly) Mayard, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away at the age of 88. Hazel was born to Odeon and Theresa Guidry in Kaplan, Louisiana on December 11, 1930. On March 17, 1951 she married Lenes (Stu) Mayard and raised three daughters—Linda (Kenneth) Nash of Jonestown, Arlene (Kim) Knighton of Port Arthur, and Donna Machann of Leander. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband of fifty-five years, and is survived by her brother Jay Guidry of Abbeville, LA, her sister Joyce Matthiew of Kaplan, LA, nine grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind a beloved friend, Clarence Lancon.

Hazel’s passion for cooking and feeding all who walked through her door, her green thumb in the garden, her infectious laugh, and her skills at cutting a rug to a catchy Zydeco tune will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 26 at Grammier Oberle Funeral Home in Port Arthur, from 4:00-7:00 pm, followed by a rosary. A Mass of the Ressurection will held at 10:00 am at Immaculate Conception-Saint Peters will be held in Hazel’s honor. The interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
