God gained an angel, Paul Loring Bourgeois, on Sunday, June 30, 2019 at the age of 93.
Paul is survived by his wife, Mary Aline Drummond Bourgeois, recently celebrating 72 years of wedding bliss. They have 3 children; Paul Allen Bourgeois and wife, Coleen Sylvester-Bourgeois of La Quinta, CA; Sandra Ann Bourgeois English and husband, Kerry English of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; and Harold Lee Bourgeois and wife, Diane Kaye Bourgeois of Groves, TX, as well as 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.
As part of the greatest generation to live, Paul served in World War II as a Marine Corps Veteran in the Philippines. After the war he graduated on the GI Bill with a Business Administration Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Houston, Texas. Paul retired 38 years ago from Gulf Oil’s package and grease department.
Paul was an avid golfer, only giving up the game about a year ago as well as a fisherman and duck hunter in earlier years. His second home on Toledo Bends waterfront was not only a personal retreat for him and Aline, but a place for many family gathering and memories. He loved to go gambling at the Casino, although he wasn’t much of a winner, and recently had a visit there only 3 weeks ago. He and Aline’s love of playing bridge created many friendships old and new. Paul lived life to the fullest and was in good health until only recently declining because of a fall. His amazing stories, contagious happiness and love for life will be missed but will forever live on through his loved ones. May he rest in peace.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 from 5 PM until 8 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home, with a rosary to be prayed at 6:30 PM at the funeral home.
