VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Bulldogs sweep Lady Titans

Nederland went on the short road to Port Arthur and held Memorial to single-digit points Tuesday in a District 21-5A sweep.

Katie Perez served 15 points in Nederland’s 25-9, 25-9, 25-7 victory, moving the Bulldogs to 23-13 and 6-1 in 21-5A. Karley McGill totaled seven kills and two blocks in the win, and Perez made six kills and four digs. Seven of Perez’s service points went for aces.

Also for Nederland, Hannah Torres struck six kills, Kamren Savarino and Jenna Jarrett each had 14 assists and Kaylee Adams finished with nine digs.

The Lady Titans dropped to 0-7 in 21-5A.

Nederland’s win sets up a first-place battle with Barbers Hill at 4:30 p.m. Friday at the Dog Dome. Barbers Hill won the previous meeting in five sets on Sept. 17 in Mont Belvieu.

Memorial will take a bye date and host Barbers Hill next Tuesday. Port Neches-Groves had the bye date Tuesday.

District 21-5A standings: Barbers Hill 7-0, Nederland 6-1, PNG 4-2, Dayton 3-4, Vidor 3-4, Cleveland 1-6 and Memorial 0-7.

 

Sabine Pass 3, Burkeville 0

In Sabine Pass, Brooklyn Dixon’s 10 aces and two kills set the tone in the Sharks’ 25-11, 25-15, 25-8 rout of the Mustangs.

Yainn Zuniga made 15 assists and added three kills and five aces for the Sharks (14-8, 6-4). Sisters Nevaeh and Charnel Jones combined for five kills and five aces, with Nevaeh getting block, and Jaeda Bryant added four aces.

Sabine Pass will host a “Pink Out” game against West Hardin on Friday.
