The truck that fatally struck a Port Arthur man and left the scene was found abandoned at an apartment complex less than 12 hours after the victim’s body was located across town on Savannah Avenue in the early a.m. hours Thursday.
The newer model white, four-door Dodge Ram truck was parked neatly in a parking space at Timber Creek Apartments, at Ninth Avenue and Jimmy Johnson Boulevard, near the back of the complex and was found approximately 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
Family of the victim — identified as Jamica Thibo, 40, of Port Arthur — watched while Port Arthur police and Crime Scene Unit officers photographed and took evidence at the scene.
They declined to comment to the Port Arthur News.
The suspect vehicle was located by family members who then alerted police, according to PAPD Det. Mike Hebert.
Surveillance video provided to police by Motiva showed Thibo, who was wearing reflective clothing with a reflector on the front wheel of his bicycle, pedal northbound on Savannah at 25th Street Wednesday evening. Not long afterward a white truck approaches the intersection and is stopped by a traffic light. The time on the video is approximately 9:17 p.m.
After the victim is struck, the unidentified driver leaves the scene only to park nearby, get out and survey the damage to his truck before leaving again.
The victim was discovered six hours later by Motiva security in the 3000 block of Savannah Avenue.
Members of PAPD’s Advanced Accident Investigation Team investigated the crash. Anyone with information on the identity of the driver is asked to call PAPD at 409-983-8600 or Crime Stoppers at 409-TIPS.
