Javante Lee Bailey

Bailey, 26, of Port Arthur is facing the second degree felony charge for the Dec. 24 robbery at Thu’s Game Room, 1300 Ninth Ave. in Port Arthur.

According to court documents, Bailey was in the game room for a short time when a woman walked outside to smoke a cigarette and Bailey followed her.

Authorities said he then grabbed her, threw her to the ground and began trying to take money from her back pockets.

The female struggled with the assailant, who dragged her across the cement and punched her in the face, police said. After he got the money, the victim was able to get to her feet and tried to take the money back but Bailey then punched her several more times with a closed fist in the face in a fight over the money.

He then fled on foot.

The victim sustained pain, bruising and abrasions during the robbery.

Bailey was arrested Jan. 7 on the robbery charge with bond set at $500,000. He also has a $10,000 bond for a possession of a controlled substance charge. He was still in the jail as of Wednesday.

A crime stopper tip led to the suspect being identified and subsequently arrested.

Port Arthur Police Department investigators along with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office’s Warrant Division and the U.S. Marshals worked on the case and it was the Marshals office that found the suspect’s location. He was found hiding in a kitchen cabinet at a relative’s house, according to authorities.

Police said the homeowner would not be charged.
