NPD releases name, information about pedestrian killed Friday night

NEDERLAND — On Saturday Nederland Police released the name of the victim killed in an auto- pedestrian wreck that took place Friday evening.

In a release to media, Nederland Police Chief Gary Porter said Hayden Werner, 15 of Nederland was killed. Police said the victim lived in the 2900 block of West Boston Avenue, not far from where the fatal collision took place.

At approximately 7:16 p.m. Friday Nederland Police Department officers responded to the 2000 block of Highway 69 southbound in reference to an auto-pedestrian crash.

Upon arrival, officers found that two juvenile males were attempting to cross the section of highway when one juvenile was struck by an S.U.V. and killed.

The driver of the vehicle was thought to have left the scene but returned to the scene voluntarily.   The second juvenile was unharmed and released to parents on scene.

The highway was temporarily shut down while officers and investigators processed the location. The family of the deceased was notified Friday evening.

No charges have been filed as of this time, police said.
