GROVES — A 16-year-old Port Arthur male will likely face charges after leading police on a foot chase in Groves on Tuesday.
Groves Police were initially called at approximately 4:50 p.m. after someone reported seeing a teen wielding a firearm at a vehicle in the vicinity of Oleander and Plaza.
Officers found a suspect around Axis Apartments in the 6700 block of 25th Street, where he reportedly ran from police.
“Officers lost sight of him but got a call later from someone who said they saw him getting into a vehicle,” Groves Police Chief Deputy Kirk Rice said.
The vehicle — which was operated by the teen’s mother and stepfather — was located and stopped. The teen denied having a gun but he did have a “fanny pack” and was in possession of marijuana. He was released to the custody of his mother. No gun was ever found, police said.
“Charges are going to be filed at a later date,” Rice said, for possession of marijuana and evading arrest/detention.
