Nursing home employee in Port Arthur tests positive for COVID-19

An employee at Senior Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Port Arthur has tested positive for COVID-19, official said.

Michelle Lair, vice president clinical service for Southwest LTC, which owns Senior Rehab on Lamplighter Lane in Port Arthur, said they were notified by the Port Arthur Heath Department on Monday of the positive result.

Lair said she is limited on what information she is able to release about the employee, including which department the employee is from.

“We cannot give dates or times,” Lair said. “We had one staff person test positive for COVID-19. No residents and no other staff member at this time have tested positive.”

The nursing home has been in touch with the local health department and state health officials and are following their directions, she said.

Precautions are and have been in place. Residents are screened/temperature taken every eight hours and employees are screened before their shift.

Judith Smith, director of health services at the Port Arthur Health Department, said the person who tested positive is a resident of Beaumont who works in Port Arthur.
