The victim in Wednesday night’s violent Port Arthur killing was a 26-year-old local man.
On Friday morning, PAPD Det. Sadie Guedry identified the victim as Jaylon Howard, adding Justice of the Peace Tom Gillam III pronounced Howard dead at the scene.
An autopsy has been ordered.
A witness told police several individuals wearing masks and armed with guns forced entry into Howard’s apartment at approximately 10:22 p.m. Wednesday.
Howard sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the upper portion of his body during the altercation, which took place at Valley View Estates.
No other occupants of the residence were injured, police said.
This marks the second homicide for Port Arthur in 2020.
