Critter Cam: Florida Panther

By Chester Moore, Jr.
The Florida Panther is the rarest of the Felis concolor (cougar) subspecies.
With fewer than 100 remaining in the wild, they are a federally endangered species.
Last week while visiting Bear Creek Feline Center in Panama City Florida, me and my wife Lisa got to photograph and video several species including this Florida Panther.
It has western cougar genetics it in as well. In fact, many in Florida do since Texas cats were stocked into the state years ago to help with the issue of inbreeding.
This specimen makes a fine ambassador animal with several of the key traits of the Florida Panther such as a smaller body and slightly different shaped nose.
