Fire destroys building at empty Carver Terrace

The cause of a fire that destroyed a vacant building at Carver Terrace Apartment complex on Monday is under investigation.

Flames were coming through the roof when Port Arthur firefighters arrived at the scene at the intersection of West 14th Street and Dewalt Avenue around 4 a.m. Jan. 11, PAFD Capt. Brian Simmons said.

The roof of building 1106 was destroyed. The building holds eight apartment units.

Four engines, a ladder truck and the battalion chief responded to the scene, which was declared clear five hours later at 9 a.m.

“No one was in the apartment at the time of the fire,” Simmons said. “The cause of the fire is under investigation.”

The apartment complex was tagged for demolition three years ago and its residents moved out to other areas.
