NPD has suspect in rash of auto burglaries; possible suspect arrested in Port Neches

NEDERLAND — Police in Nederland have identified a suspect they believe is responsible for multiple auto burglaries that occurred Wednesday and Thursday in their city.

A man that may be involved in the crimes was stopped by Port Neches Police on Nall Street some time after midnight for a traffic violation.

Nederland Assistant Police Chief Gary Porter said there were six auto burglaries reported on Wednesday. They include; three burglaries in the 600 block of South Ninth Street, one in the 800 block of South Ninth Street, one in the 1400 block of Avenue H and one in the 1100 block of South 16th Street.

By Thursday afternoon police received five more auto burglary reports for incidents in the 300 block of Atlanta Avenue, 800 block of Chicago Avenue, 200 block of South Third Street, 300 block of North Fifth Street and one in the 3000 block of FM 365.

“We believe the crimes are related,” Porter said, adding that a majority of the burglarized vehicles were left unlocked. “We have a suspect that we believe may have committed at least several of the burglaries.”

Porter advises residents to lock their vehicles and not leave firearms or valuables in the vehicles.

“If you do have an auto burglary, even if nothing is missing or is of little to no value, please report this,” he said.

Port Neches Police Chief Paul Lemoine said the man that was stopped on the traffic violation was in possession of property police believe was stolen from somewhere else.

Persons with information about the auto burglaries are asked to call 722-4965.
