NWS issues excessive heat warning

Much of the south, including Port Arthur, is under an excessive heat warning Monday and Tuesday with triple digit heat indexes as a stubborn upper level high pressure system moves over the south central United States.
According to the National Weather Service’s Lake Charles office, the heat warning remains in effect from 11 a.m. Monday until 8 p.m. tonight.
The high today for the Port Arthur area will be near 97, with a heat index value as high as 106.
Tuesday’s high temperature is much the same with heat indexes reaching even higher, up to 108.
Temperatures remain in the mid-to-upper 90s throughout the week with a 20 percent chance of afternoon thundershowers starting Tuesday.
Across the state, the NWS is predicting temperatures will reach 103 today and 102 Tuesday in the Lakes area.
Longview is forecast to see the mercury rise to 105 Monday and 104 Tuesday.
In Dallas, temperatures are predicted to reach 106 Monday and 102 Tuesday.
Austin will also see temperatures climb to 103 Monday and 102 Tuesday.
The NWS is warning people to be extremely careful as dangerous heat related stress and fatigue can occur to those working or exercising outdoors.
