Jacobs Track Club brings back Junior Olympic medals

Jacobs Sports Academy had a successful 2016 outdoor season in track and field with a total of 55 children to qualify for the AAU Junior Olympics in Humble.

Forty-five youths medaled during the July 30-Aug. 6 competition. The 11- to 12-year-old boys placed second in the 4×800. This relay included Jaylon Guilbeau, Jackson Gibbs, Caleb Anthony and James Boutte.

Jaylon, a seventh-grader, also competed in the 800-meter run finishing 10th overall in the nation with the time of 2 minutes,19 seconds.

The 15-16 boys 4×400 meter relay team of Cameron Brown, Jecobie Dixon, Reginal Ellis and Xavier Haul, medaled in top eight.

Cyrus Jacobs, a seventh-grader, competed with the 13-year-old boys and ran the fastest time in the nation, winning the 800 with a time of 2:04.21. He also anchored the 13-14 boys 4×400 meter relay with Elijah Durden, Cody Brown and Josh Garnier and ran first leg on the 4×100 relay with Johnathan Johnson, Amari Caldwell and Zavery Harris.  Both relays medaled in the top eight.

Elyse Jacobs and her sister Emerald Jacobs both competed in the girls 800 meter run and medaled in the top eight.  Elijah Jacobs, 10, competed in the 1,500 meters and medaled. Cody Brown, a 13- to 14-year-old boy, completed in the 400 meter dash and medaled in fourth place.

Jacobs Sports Academy Track Club strives to help athletes reach their full potential. Coaches contact schools for seniors each year and advocate for them to receive scholarships at the college level. Two senior girls, Tia Elmore and Natasha Jackson, received a full scholarship to Northwestern State.
