ORANGE — A Nederland man was killed early Wednesday when his westbound vehicle hit a guardrail on Interstate 10 and went airborne.
The Texas Department of a Public Safety said in a news release that the unidentified victim, 37, was driving near exit 860 in Orange County around 5 a.m. when the one-vehicle wreck occurred.
Justice of the Peace Joy Simonton pronounced the driver dead at the scene.
A passenger, 42, from Beaumont, was taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth hospital with serious injuries, the DPS reported.
An investigation was launched at the scene and the outside lane was closed because of the crash. DPS said it was not known why the vehicle struck the initial guardrail; it later struck a second guardrail.
Motorists were urged to use caution.
