A Lumberton man reportedly chocked a disabled female, dragged her by her hair and broke some of her personal items.

He was indicted this week on a charge of injury to a disabled person with intent for bodily injury.

Beaumont police were called March 15 to a welfare check at a home in the 3700 block of Queens Row but when officers arrived Kaden Michael Brown, 26, initially refused to let them to enter.

When he did give permission to enter they reportedly found the living room in disarray with a shelf on its side and books lying on the ground.

The female told officers Brown chocked her with his left hand, impeding her ability to breath. He also dragged her in and out of the house multiple times and broke her phone to keep her from calling police or other emergency services, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Police noted the woman had visible involuntary tremors and difficulty speaking and when asked about this she said she is disabled. She also had a sitting walker within arm’s reach.

The woman also told police Brown damaged the interior keypad locking mechanism on the front door with a hammer, and the evidence was allegedly at the scene.

Officers noticed Brown was reportedly highly intoxicated and had slurred speech, glassy bloodshot eyes and was swaying while standing still.

He was taken to Baptist Hospital for medical clearance then brought to the county jail.

Bond was set at $10,000 for the injury to disabled and $2,500 for interfere with emergency request for assistance.

As of Friday afternoon he was still listed on the jail roster.
