BEAUMONT — Charges have not been filed on a driver who was involved in a recent fatal auto-pedestrian crash that occurred near the county jail.

“According to the investigator, it could take months to receive subpoenaed records,” Beaumont Police Officer Carol Riley said.

The driver of a black Chrysler involved in the crash was arrested on unrelated warrants out of Hockley County. His name has not been released to the public, as he was not charged in connection with the crash, Riley said.

According to a news release from the Beaumont Police Department, the fatal crash occurred at approximately 5:45 p.m. April 22 in the area of U.S. 69 northbound service road.

Police believe the driver failed to negotiate an exit and attempted to drive through the grassy median at the same highway speed, then lost control of the vehicle and struck the victim, who was walking on the service road.

The pedestrian, a male, was pronounced deceased on scene.

The victim was identified as Dalton Drake, 24, whose last known address was Port Neches.
