A Hamshire area man arrested for driving a boat while intoxicated and causing a passenger to be critically injured has bonded out of jail.

David Hatcher, 44, was arrested Tuesday night on a charge of intoxication assault, a third degree felony with bond set at $7,500 by a magistrate. He was since bonded out of jail, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, a center console bay boat with three occupants was traveling along Taylor’s Bayou in Jefferson County, reportedly to set alligator lines for which they had permits, Texas Parks and Wildlife Captain Game Warden Ryan Hall said in a news release.

The operator attempted to go under the Boondocks Road bridge on full plane and one passenger struck his head and face on the bottom of the concrete bridge.

An investigation conducted on scene by local TPWD Game Wardens established probable cause that the operator, David Hatcher was intoxicated at the time of the crash.  Hatcher was arrested and booked in to the Jefferson County Jail on the charge of Intoxication Assault, a 3^rd degree felony, just hours after the crash.

The victim, identified as Randolph Mosher, 66, of Dallas, was flown from the scene by medical helicopter to UTMB Galveston Emergency Hospital due to severe head injuries. He is listed in the Emergency ICU in critical condition as of early Wednesday afternoon.
