PORT NECHES — A Port Neches woman who is charged with the brutal killing of her live-in boyfriend reportedly told police she woke up from being choked to discover her hands were covered in blood.

The probable cause affidavit for the arrest of McKenzie Eary, 20, sheds light into the incident that led to the stabbing and beating death of Greg Bobenoaux, 24, on Oct. 18.

Port Neches police responded to The Medical Center of Southeast Texas at 9:30 p.m. Oct. 18 in reference to the victim of an assault. When on the way, the hospital dispatch alerted police there might be a deceased person at an apartment at The Palms, 877 Ridgewood Drive.

The officer diverted travel and went to the apartment complex, looked in the window and reportedly saw what appeared to be blood covering the entryway behind the front door.

The door was unlocked.

The officer opened the door and saw what appeared to be a black male laying room the living room floor surrounded by blood.

According to the document, the officer announced his or her presence and entered the apartment and noticed the male did not appear to be breathing.

The officer said the male was deceased with a deep puncture in the left side of his neck and massive blunt force trauma around his head and neck.

Investigators believe he was stabbed and beaten with a baseball bat.

While police processed the scene, the officer went to the hospital to speak with the female. The female, identified as McKenzie Eary, said after she returned home from work her boyfriend, identified as Greg Bobenoaux, began arguing with her while she held their child.

The child is about 6 to 7 months of age, according to police.

Eary said Bobenoaux struck her in the back of the head with a closed fist and continued to assault her to the point he was choking her and hitting her until she “blacked out,” the document read.

She reportedly stated that when she woke up she observed her hands to be covered in blood. She contacted a family member to retrieve her and the child. Once the child was taken care of Eary was brought to the hospital.

Police Chief Cheri Griffith said, to her knowledge, the child is currently with family.

Witnesses at the apartment complex reportedly told police they overheard a loud disturbance coming from Eary and Bobenoaux’s apartment. An unknown amount of time later, an older woman arrived at the apartment and was overheard yelling at Eary, stating “how, how how how…,” the document read.

Griffith said there had been only one previous call to the apartment and it was for a verbal disturbance.

Eary remains in the Jefferson County jail on a $100,000 bond.

Griffith said the case is still under investigation.
