Firefighters battle Valero blaze, shelter in place order lifted, no fatalities reported

There were no reported fatalities or injuries in the Valero fire Tuesday.

According to a statement from Lillian Riojas, a Valero spokesperson, the fire on a heavy oil tank broke out at 11:50 a.m.

As of 1:50 p.m. Riojas reported that the company’s fire department along with firefighters from the city of Port Arthur were working to extinguish the fire.

“Valero has contacted local authorities and are cooperating with agencies,” the press released stated.

There was a brief shelter in place notice sent out by the city that affected homes and schools, but by 2 p.m., the order was lifted.
