Roland E. Smith Sr., 89, of Groves passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2019, at Bonne Vie Nursing Home in Port Arthur. Roland was born March 15, 1930 in Port Arthur, Texas to the late William and Lucy Smith. Roland had a green thumb for growing flowers and citrus fruits. He was also a generous person, sharing his produce with friends and family. After retiring from Gulf Oil Refinery after 33 years of service, Roland traveled the United States with his wife.

Roland is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Jo Ann Smith; daughters, Julie Anna Campbell and husband Will, Loreli Abraham and husband Jeff; Jeanie Casanova and Carl Young; Summer Jackson and husband Harold; son, Roland “Buzz” E. Smith Jr. and wife Jeannie Ann; sister, Hope Martin and husband Charles. Mr. Smith also leaves behind grandchildren, Brandy Bryant, Autumn Crowder, Bambi Ann Campbell, Brian Paul Abraham, Brad Philip Abraham, Lisa Rosenthal, Leah Sanders, Amy Miller, Jody Ducote, Haley Smith and Donnie Paige; and 13 great grandchildren to cherish his memories.

A gathering of friends and relatives will be from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., with a Celebration of Life Service to begin at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 22, 2019, at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park.
