At 1:26 a.m. Thursday, the Port Arthur Police Department got a call about a vehicle collision in the 1300 block of Joe Lewis Ave.

At the scene, officers discovered an unresponsive driver at the scene. The driver was taken to the Medical Center of Southeast Texas where he was pronounced dead hours later.

Unconfirmed television reports claim the driver was actually shot and found in a stolen car, but City Spokesperson Risa Carpenter could not immediately confirm that.

However, the city’s press release did report that detectives from the criminal investigations division are actively investigating the call.
